Gauteng Logo Rationale

This is just the beginning.

The new Gauteng brand is perfectly distilled in its logotype, a spiral shape made up of dots of increasing sizes, and hinting at the letter G.

The centre dot symbolises the heart of Gauteng, the spark which generates the vibrant mix of ideas and sensations that make up the rich landscape of Gauteng. From the point of ‘ignition’, the dot expands outwards, each dot increasing in size and changing colour. This ‘growth’ symbolises the infinite, limitless opportunities that Gauteng offers – to its people and, just as importantly, to the world as a whole. Whatever your hopes, dreams and ambitions, they start here.

The spiral shape has ancient origins and is widely recognised in Africa. It has left its mark on engineering, textiles, sculpture, painting and religion.

The six different colours in the logo represent Gauteng’s diversity (cultural, historical, sporting, business or nature) as well as the natural elements that make up our province (water, earth, leaf, sun, sky and clay).

The logo, like Gauteng itself, has infinite possibilities. For example, the dots can be replaced with circular icons representing different features of Gauteng life.
This adds even more personality, showing us that Gauteng is diverse and ever-changing.

We have already trialed the new identity across different media. And we have found it to be flexible, friendly and effective. It will provide a suitable springboard as we launch Gauteng into new markets and introduce its delights to new people. Our story can now be told with color and conviction.

For now, we’d ask you to embrace it as part of your family. Because the Gauteng brand is here to represent you in the best possible light.
