PROJECT BRINGS CLEAR RESULTS

In association with the Jukskei River Catchment Management Forum and led by Environmental Wetland and Riparian specialist, Paul Fairall, Bombela Civils Joint Venture (B CJV) recently supported a project to clean one of Joburg’s most polluted lakes, Bruma Lake, and restore it to the required environmental standard.

Eighteen volunteer cleaners were sourced from the Mveledzo Community Organisation in Alexandra, and they teamed up with representatives of the Jukskei River Cleanup Project, which began in Bezuidenhout Valley near Bruma Lake. Over two days, the teams cleared hundreds of bags of plastic, paper, sewage and all sorts of packaging and pollutants.

Commenting on the clean-up initiative, which formed part of our Corporate Social investment programme, B CJV’s Environmental Manager, Etienne van der Lith, says it confirms our commitment to maintaining sound environmental standards throughout the Project. “It also gave us the opportunity to support a well-coordinated and managed initiative that has vastly improved a dam that has been ignored by the Johannesburg community for far too long,” Etienne adds.
