SAFETY AWARDS FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

A comprehensive safety plan has been put in place by Bombela Civils Joint Venture (CJV) in order to meet the stringent demands created by the construction of Gautrain. Every possible safeguarding measure is being taken to protect employees against the countless challenges created by the construction of Gautrain. In managing the safety process, employees deal with varied issues on a daily basis – these include incident reporting, good housekeeping, Personal Protective Equipment compliance, the quality of the toolbox talks and the limiting of on-site injuries.

The monthly Safety Awards were created to recognise the exceptional efforts of the Gautrain’s construction site teams to uphold the best safety practice and standards.  All of the construction sites along the Gauteng Rapid Rail Link are considered for these awards. The construction manager and the on-site safety officer spend approximately two days a month doing ad-hoc inspections on the entire construction team.

Congratulations to two Centurion site teams for being the winners of the March 2008 and April 2008 Safety Awards respectively.

  • March 2008 was awarded to the team working at pier 43 in West Avenue, Centurion
  • April 2008 was awarded to the team working at the “Lay Down Area” in Von Willigh Street, Centurion
