Gautrain construction in Tshwane is moving full steam ahead as the Bombela team working in Centurion prepare for road deviations on the N14 northbound carriageway, north of Jean Avenue which will come into effect on Saturday, 29 March 2008 until December 2009.
In order to proceed with the deviation, road construction works will be carried out on the N14 on Tuesday, 25 March 2008 and will end on Saturday, 29 March 2008. This will result in only single lane closures on the N14 northbound at Jean Avenue. For the convenience of motorist this will be implemented during off peak hours between 09:00 and 15:00.
Right (fast) lane closures (going towards Pretoria) will be implemented during the week. On Saturday, 29 March 2008 the left (slow) lane and right (fast) lane will be closed (one lane at a time) at the deviation point as the team will be working on road markings. The deviation will be situated just north of the Jean Avenue Bridge and will be less than 1 kilometer long.
The planned deviation of the N14 north is required to allow sufficient working space for the construction of the piers and cantilever viaduct positioned between the northbound carriageway and the Jean Avenue offramp. The works will enable the Gautrain to cross over the N14 in the proximity of Jean Avenue.
Traffic flow on 31 March 2008 will also be impacted by the erection of concrete road barriers at the deviation point. This will result in the closure of the left (slow) lane.
Gautrain endeavours to ensure the safety of motorists during the construction period and urges them to note the changes and follow signage that will be put in place during the deviation period. The N14 lane closure and deviation plans have been approved by the SA National Roads Agency (SANRAL).
