Bombela Civils Joint Venture (CJV) has progressed with construction at the N3/Marlboro interchange and are preparing for the construction of a tunnel portion of the Gautrain alignment beneath the N3 at Marlboro Drive. This will involve the construction of a cut-and-cover structure which will result in a deviation of the N3 northbound offramp at Marlboro Drive (from Germiston towards Sandton) from the end of April 2008.
Upon completion, the structure will allow the Gautrain to travel beneath the N3 highway to enter the split towards the OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) and towards Midrand/Tshwane.
The temporary offramp will run parallel to the existing offramp and will maintain normal traffic flow. On completion of the works, the current N3/Marlboro offramp lanes will be re-instated.
Motorists need to be aware that the works that have continued over the past year on the Marlboro Bridge are now completed, and the Marlboro bridge traffic flow will be re-instated. A series of road closures and road deviations are planned in the near future along the N3 highway and again underneath the Marlboro Bridge as Gautrain construction progresses in this vicinity.
Necessary traffic signage will be erected at relevant points notifying motorists of temporary deviations. Gautrain would like to encourage motorists to be vigilant of notice boards and temporary traffic signage on the road during construction activities and to always drive with caution.
The public is advised to contact the Gautrain Call Centre on 0800 Gautrain (0800 428 872 46) with any queries regarding Gautrain construction or visit our website on www.gautrain.co.za.
