In the last month Gautrain has been recognised by various institutions for its professionalism and innovation. This week’s Gautrain Rapid-Round-Up reports on awards received from the National Press Club, the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa, the International Association of Business Communication and the CinéRail Festival for Rail & Metro on Film.

MEDIA LIAISON OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO GAUTRAIN

The Gautrain Spokesperson, Dr. Barbara Jensen received the Media Liaison Officer of the year award for 2010 on 14 March 2011. This prestigious award, given out by the National Press Club, recognises excellence in liaison with the media. She was congratulated on always being available to the media, not steering away from difficult situations and not only communicate facts but also her passion for the project.

“This accolade is due to a team effort that is always there to support Gautrain’s interaction with the media. But, what is more important, is that the media and communicators work together towards public understanding” said Dr Jensen.

FOUR PRIZES FOR GAUTRAIN FROM PRISA

Gautrain received four prizes on 26 March 2011. Awarded by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa, Gautrain was recognised for Public Relations in Strategic Management. Awards received were:

  • Gold for Media Relations
  • Silver for Social Media
  • Silver for Public Relations in the Public Sector
  • Bronze for Launch of a New Service

GAUTRAIN RECEIVES A SPECIAL MENTION

At the Paris Festival CinéRail Train & Metro on Film on 22 March 2011 Gautrain received “Special mention of the Jury for the quality of films presented”. The Jury were especially impressed with the quality of films that came out of Africa and how it captured the spirit of Africa and it’s people.

TWO PRIZES FOR GAUTRAIN FROM IABC

The International Association of Business Communicators award Gautrain with two awards. The African Gold Quill awards were received for Gautrain’s social media as well as for its media relations.

The Quill awards recognises individuals and organisations for leadership, strategic management, creativity, resourcefulness and successful solutions within the communication sector.

Having been an award winner on the African continent, Gautrain is automatically entered into the international Gold Quill award competition.

GAURAIN FINALIST IN THE GLOBAL AIRRAIL AWARDS 2011

Two Gautrain award entries have been listed as finalists for the Global AirRail Awards for 2011. These entries were for New Service of the Year and for Best Marketing Campaign.

The Global AirRail Awards are part of an airrail programme to promote rail connections with airports and recognise best practices. Winners will be announced in mid May 2011.

RAILWAYS AND HARBOURS CONFERENCEAND EXHIBITION 2011

Gautrain will be exhibiting at the Railways and Harbours Conference and Exhibition from the 6 – 8 April at NASREC. This event, hosted by Railways Africa, showcases all aspects of rail from passenger services through to freight- essential components in moving our economy forward.

There are a number of presentations during the conference, specifically relating to Gautrain. Corne Engelbrecht from Bombardier will be speaking about the rigorous maintenance programme and the unique set up of the Midrand maintenance depot – component of commuter safety as well ensuring availability and reliability of this world-class service. Another presentation is by Dr Barbara Jensen who will share her insight and involvement in changing perceptions through communication.

BOOSTING PUBLIC TRANSPORT: 59th UITP WORLD CONGRESS

The preservation of attractive and competitive cities for people and business requires a massive shift to Public Transport. In 2025, public transport is the preferred choice in urban mobility policies and it provides an attractive alternative to cars. Compared to 2009, public transport has succeeded in doubling its market share worldwide.

10 – 13 April 2011, Gautrain will be joining over 350 international exhibitors in Dubai. This worldwide exhibition brings together all sectors related to public transport.
